PROCESS RECORDING
            It is a tool used in teaching counselling and psychiatric field. Its also known as interpersonal relations recordings patient nurse interaction interviews. It is being utilized as a tool to help them in assisting nursing students to acquire understanding of and competence in IPR.
DEFINITION
            A verbatim account of a visit for purposes of  bringing out the interplay between the nurse and the patient in relation to the objectives of the visit.

TECHNIQUES
1.     Preparing the student for process recording
Ø  The researcher must help the student to define clearly the appropriate objectives to be accomplished regarding nurse patient interaction
Ø  Teacher should help the student to learn how to go about in writing a process record
2.     Recording nurse patient interaction
Ø  The exact verbatim of the nurse patient interaction
Ø  The student’s conscious feelings and her interpretation of the patient’s feelings
Ø  Analysis for meanings and clues to patient’s needs
Ø  The instructor and the student evaluation of the total process record experience
3.     Evaluating the nurse patient interaction
Ø  After the interaction data have been collected by the student the teacher and the student have the subject matter for a learning experience
Ø  Analysis of data is time consuming and should be considered by the teacher before she selects the process recording as a teaching tool
Ø  During the process on analysing the recordings the objectives of the learning experience should be kept clearly in focus
Ø  The teacher must discuss the process recording with the student
Ø  The teacher should help the student to explore the reason for nurse patient interaction
FORM OF PROCESS RECORDING
·       Goals for working with assigned patient
·       Important factors in patient’s personality development
·       Somatic therapies and medications for patient
·       Date each recording
·       Amount of time which you spent with the patient
·       Describe briefly the setting or situation previous to conversation
·       Identify the patient’s needs as represented by behaviour
·       Identify mental mechanisms that you think the patient is using and give examples
·       After completion of this assignment comment on how well you were able to meet the goals which you set up for working with assigned patient
·       Evaluate the process record as a learning experience for you at the end of the assignment
