SYMPOSIUM
INTRODUCTION:
All instruction should be
carefully graded and arranged in a natural order. The teacher in her methods
should appeal through sense perception to understanding of the students.
Education must begin with the student and must be adopted to the needs and
requirements of the student and her grows. Progressive methods of teaching
provide suitable opportunities for learning by doing.
SYMPOSIUM
Two or more persons under the
direction of a chairman present separate speeches, which gives several aspects
of one question.
To investigate the problem from
several point of view.
Symposium consist of a set of
program of prepared speeches followed by audience discussion.
Several people present speeches
representing different approaches to the same problem. These from the basis for
the general group participation. Each individual may be given separate topic,
or taken together, they represent a broad consideration of the topic – A series
of related papers are presented.
DISADVANTAGES :

Lack of time

Inadequate opportunity for all
the students to participate actively.

Time is limited to 15-20 min.

Audience participation is
limited.
TECHNIQUES :
Success depends on the personal
involved and the degree of participation.

The teacher should plan the
program ahead of time.

The teacher and members should
know the objectives of the symposium and the breadth of the topic to be
discussed.

The teachers or student may
function as chairman, she will introduce the topic, and the chairman introduces
each of the speakers.

To have unity and proper
sequence, the chairman may give transitional statement between speeches. Then
she gives a brief summary at the close of all the speeches and opens the
discussion to the audience.

She directs questions to the
various members of the group trying to give all individual an equal
opportunity.
CONCLUSION:
The nurse educator has the
important task of training in teaching skills to deliver the content by using
various teaching strategies in better manner. The teachers must know what all
methods of teaching are and techniques, Advantage, disadvantage. It will be
giving the good teaching skills.
